But you can also type "exchange rate" on Google...

This might work: http://www.x-rates.com/

I always use http://www.oanda.com/

Type into Google: "1000 dollars to pounds". Google will come back with the number of pounds that's worth under the current exchange rate. Of course, you can replace the "1000" with any other amount you want to convert.

I find Universal Currency Converter very useful for figuring out currency conversion.
