honor way to war
no matter what the peaceniks think
honor wages war
forever living on the brink
i lost my honor long ago
with the youngsters' blood that flowed

They sat in the street
they raised their flag
against the killing war
within Baghdad

They made a pledge
and did avow
they'd stop this rage
with peace somehow

They gave their speech
and dried their eyes
but could not stop
the endless cries

For all who care
and would incite
to stop it now
this endless fight

But chatter heard
upon the hill
the man inside
who signs the bill

Both ignores the plight
and begs his pride
its not his fault
for all who died

I can remember a place I'd been
Deserted by all exept for me.
In the forgotten burning horizon
I found salvation etched in the earth

From there was born, and could not die
Forever enthralled amongst fragile lives.
But killed by my hate
I was forced to return.

We are all made of stardust
The universe and us
We try to stray from destiny
With this thing called personality
It never works
We come back
Like flies to the crust

People don't realize
That they aren't in charge
You can see it in their eyes
But life is too large

If only they let go
There would be more to receive
Move with the flow
And your mind won't deceive

You have just one time
And it's short
Take what you find
Realize and purport

as the little scarab rolls
so roll i
across the plains and knolls
of the sky
from birth until life folds
task to ply

I saw my son
In a dream the other night
He was so beautiful
And filled me with delight.
Just to know
What a father must feel
When he holds his son
And gives his life with zeal.

I had to leave
So I walked away
Such sorrow
If I could only stay one more day.
He reached out
With his little paw
He grabbed me tight
And jabbed me with his jaw.

I walked out the door
He stared in disbelief
But I had to go
God stole me like a thief.
I would never come back
With this burden and this shame
And he'd be crying all night
Because he would never see his pa again.

I'm not quite sure if those are spontaneous because I made a few corrections. Either way, they took me less than two minutes.

That's a sad one, individual...what I would call a bittersweet poem.

As books are read
the pages turn
the thoughts inside
are what we learn

We smile and grin
then laugh and cry
the plot arrives
and then we sigh

When a good book ends
with the very last line
you read it again
just one more time

I feel that way about most books I read.
Unfortunately, it must be placed in a grave and await to be revived another day.

I set myself a time limit for these poems. During that time I freely revise my work. To me a non spontaneous poem is one you revisit and work over until you don't know any way to further improve upon it.

I spend on average about five to six minutes. Even though it supposed to be spontaneous, I always run it through spell check.

The thread started by individual (Inspired Poems) is well worth checking out. It has a good twist to it.

there's a bird caught in the attic
how did it get in i dont know
i just heard it batting frantic
and its creating quite a row

one time we had us a squirrel
with little ones snuggled in a nest
she turned upside down our whole world
before we got rid of that pest

the birds a different question
so frail it could easily die
we shall all learn a new lesson
before this bird can freely fly

Good one Edgar! About 10 years ago I came home from work to find a squirrel in my house...I had two cats and they didn't even notice it. Still not sure how it got in. I opened the front door wide, took a broom and chased the darn thing all over the place until it finally ran out the door. It was more scared than I was.

Thanks for advertising the thread edgar.
I had a bird stuck in my car once, pooped all over the place. Then there was the time I had a peacock in my bathroom, appropriate place to evacuate his bowels, but left the bathroom with a horrible stench and it took forever to clean up.
