For Danny

I pulled out the Christmas decorations
Another year had just passed by
The boxes buried 'neath each other
I reach for them and sighed

How could it have come and gone so fast
And now it's here again
With tinsel smooshed inside a box
To show me where it's been

Deep inside the tattered ruins
The one with wrapping bows
I found memories forgotten
So very long ago

Crumpled foil of a Christmas star
Made by tiny hands with pride
Sparkly glitter dancing in array
Left it's mark so deep inside

You won't be here this Christmas
Or any other times
Your shinning star will top my tree
And then your light will shine

colorbook- beautifully written....

I hate to follow that with this, but I'm venting...

Youngest child, only son,
Taught that he was number one
A boy who'll never be a man
Cannot give, just takes what he can
Privileged boy who answers to none,
Mama, see what you have done?
Used to having things his way...
Well guess what? I don't want to play!
Mama, you just keep the brat...
I discovered I prefer my cat!

Born in the middle
Of three nights and a strange town
Walked through eighteen years
Seven steps at time
Only paused to breathe once
Crossroads spinning before his peer
One way lives, one way dies
Pretentious club posers danced
In the night, calling
This way! No this way!
His cage absent of sage
Seven steps more
Taller now, see me?
No more long in the tooth
The man inside looming
Coasting, as he races
Changing in the rearview
Seven giant steps
Morphing in the middle
Of three nights and a strange town

Thanks edgar and kirsten. This was inspired by my brother, and of course, it was spontaneous.

In soft moments,
in painful umbras,
I remember family
passed on, gone
to dusty realms.
What life is this
being born to miss?

"I'm free in my hoverround,"
Grandpa said, knocking the furniture down.
"Draw me a map, son, I say,
Showing the quickest route on the freeway.
I hope my battery's strong
In case I'm in backed up traffic too long.
Good-bye; I will see you soon -
Just don't block my way you big hulking goon.
You may be my only son:
I'll flatten your ass if you block my run."
And he never saw his Dad again.

Sometimes my thoughtlines are free
My mind's an endless stream
I can hear your blood beat next to me
When I enter into your dream
Then your heart becomes a text to me
The center of all I scheme
I take the cries out of your dreams each night
I make them turn out alright
I breathe in extra prayers for you
I escape into the light
Bearing the cape God wears for you
His rainbow of love's in sight

On this day of thanks
let us remember what we really are thankful for
Some may not gather at your table today
Some may never be able to
Pull up a chair for them, set them a plate
and because you are a family of love, their spirit will be present

We all should be thankful today
For what we have and what we say
Others cannot even speak
Or hear,or play one day a week
Yes, we are thankful to do things our way

You are George's fiery dragon
You are Hannibal's
Tons of animals
You are the horse before the wagon
You have the teeth and hair
A famous dancing bear
I am Snavely's walrus
