my heart is a broken wheel
the barrow rusts its burden
entangled vines of groping twine
sewn on leaves freewayed ants
orphan storm exposing bones

where icicles touched
spider webs grow
weeds in the cracks
where there used to be snow

concealed through trees
the blue summer sky
was cast gray in winter
as a cold windy sigh

mosquitoes are biting
multiplying the heat
annoying the nighttime
as they sting and repeat

humidity drenching
slick on the skin
dreaming of cooler daysÂ…
but not winter again

Dog days of summer
Seen thru diffused light
Hot, all through the day hours
And, yes, through the night.

Winds gently blow
Or they gale down the trees
There is no dry dirt now
The dog's full of fleas

The beetles 'birthin'
All over my beans
The tomatoes a rotting
All over my greens

I have a few melons
Jacked up from the ground
And enough sweet patooties
To make a rough mound

Now, Ill be happy for Christmas
And even a frost
At least, not be sweating
About all garden lost.

Make a short story LONG
Tell it twice, and sing a song.

Great analogy edgar Smile

simple pleasures
feel them weigh
like candy canes
on christmas day

feathered clouds
marshmallow thick
slo-poke large
upon a stick

pixie sticks
and little squirrels
winding slow
in little twirls

mary janes
and faygo pop
chocolate shake
with extra malt

i fight like a marshmallow in a blender
i get goo all over the bad guy
i sink like a pebble in the marshes
burrow like crayfish on jambalaya day
just remember he who runs
will never fight this or any other fray

Oh who
Whose dawn at my window
Do I see
Whose bird
That chirps at my window
just for me

Through the night
Cold gray shadows
bother me
who breaks the sun
answer me

Are you God
Are you some nature's whim
Are you God
Are you some nature's whim

On mountaintops, is where you learn
To hold your ground, though others yearn
To see you fall, to lose it all
It's not to be - you've heard the call
You know you're strong
You know they're wrong
You know the day will not be long
When love will rule
And those sad fools
Will stand alone
And sink like stones.

turn on the butterfly
see
it lights up the sky
like a carnival
with ferris wheels and zippers
and little kids with cotton candy

the children slipped the noose
of mother's words, the bitter walls
of the house they ran
the wild grass to ground with bare feet and laughter
while the wind took in mouthfuls of hair

they were now nothing but skirts
and bare churning legs
racing towards the trees and the departing
sunlight but the line of trees never drew closer
and the grass attacked in waves
swallowed whole the little children
leaving only the loosened loop
of mother's words

Smile How are you doing, Aidan? Thanks. It has been too long since I've written anything. I was listening to Tori Amos's "Doughnut Song" as I wrote it -- I tend to use music to jumpstart a mood/inspiration in addition to the cover of night, bwahaha!
