EXCLUSIVE: Al Qaeda eyes bio attack from Mexico

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jun/03/al-qaeda-eyes-bio-attack-via-mexico-border/?source=newsletter_must-read-stories-today_photo_feature

If the US government follows it's normal course they will unfortunately take meaningful action only after the damage is done. It is not time to take action and seal the leaking sieve to our south now?

@au1929,
Al Quaeda is starting to resemble an attention whore.

Bio weapons are notoriously hard to develop and hard to control.

Wouldn't leaking sieve be a repetitive redundancy?

@au1929,

" U.S. counterterrorism officials have authenticated a video by an al Qaeda recruiter threatening to
smuggle a biological weapon into the United States via tunnels under the Mexico border, the latest sign
of the terrorist group's determination to stage another mass-casualty attack on the U.S. homeland. "

Good luck to them in mounting a successful bio or nerve gas attack on the US.

Not a simple thing to do and hardly a cost/resources effected attack either. Not the same thing a taking over four planes with box cutters for example.

Not even the rich and high tech Japanese terrorist’s cult had a great deal of luck in this regard a few years ago and they did not have to transport the devices half way around the world.

A dozen suicide bombers attacking shopping marts during the Christmas shopping season would pay off better from their veiwpoint and need no high tech.

If they wish a more wide area attack I can think of a numbers of inter-structure attacks that could shut down a city for a few weeks and so could anyone with an engineering background. No blood but a real economic hit to say the least.

If instead they would wish to wipe out a small town there are a lot of poorly design dams that are unprotected and a million others ways that does not need high tech or great resources.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A self-described American terrorist whom police said has a mental condition and a history of making threats shut down Interstate 25 at the height of the evening commute Tuesday.

Albuquerque police reported he placed a backpack with electronic gear and some personal things inside on Avenida Cesar Chavez beneath I-25 at about 4:30 p.m. and then called 911.

It's not clear what exactly he said, but it was enough prompt a full response from the Albuquerque Police Department bomb squad and to block traffic in all directions on both the freeway and Cesar Chavez.

When police arrived they found the caller standing in the middle of the street. They arrested him, and demolitions experts neutralized the backpack.

"You have to take these items very, very seriously," APD spokesman John Walsh said. "The moment you don't is when you have a tragedy."

Walsh said the man is in his 50s and has made these kinds of threats before here and elsewhere.

However APD is not releasing his name because they believe he has a mental condition.

The suspect faces multiple felony charges and could be in even more trouble if federal agencies decide to get involved.

The freeway reopened about 5:30 p.m. with traffic flowing again on Avenida Cesar Chavez after that.

The fact that authorities are finding this video so late in the game is concerning.
Evil doers, weapons, drugs and who knows what have been flowing across/under
the border for several years. Yes, "They" are already here...

@Butrflynet,
True and why would any one need to go by way of Mexico carrying or not carrying a bio weapon?

You could mail/ship a bio weapon in a small box and getting your people in by traveling on normal airliners would be better then crawling by way of a tunnel.

Europeans have no problem entering the US and there are one hell of a large Muslin population in those countries.

The English suicide bus/subway bombers was second generation English citizens who would had have no problem entering the US legally.

Al Qaeda operatives would be less noticeable mixed in with the Mexican population, they blend.
Also, this country is so fu*king politically correct that few if any would be stopped or checked as they entered.
If they did get caught, they would be set free and returned to Mexico - that is unless they matched up to a watch list.

@H2O MAN,
How in the hell can someone who does not share the same language the same culture the same religion and on and on is going to blend in?

You mean a similar skin color you think that this alone would allow someone to blend in?

Maybe it would be slightly helpful from a distance of 300 yards and I mean slightly helpful even at that distance.

You are a nut case.
