Movie: Parineeta Cast: Vidya Balan, Sanjay Dutt (son of Sunil Dutt and Nargis), Saif Ali Khan, Raima Sen, Diya Mirza
Music by Shantanu Moitra
Parineeta (Hindi: परिणीता, Bengali: পরিণীতা, Urdu: پرنیتا, translation: The Married Woman) is a Bollywood musical adaptation of the 1914 Bengali novella, Parineeta by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Directed by debutant Pradeep Sarkar,[2] the film was based upon a screenplay by the film's producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The movie featured Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. Raima Sen plays supporting role of Lolita's chirpy cousin. Sabyasachi Chakravarthy playing the pivotal role of Shekhar's father, Diya Mirza with a cameo appearance as Shekhar's fiancé and Rekha, a yesteryear actress from Bollywood, with a cameo performance of a night club (Moulin Rouge) singer are other notable performances from the film.
The film primarily revolves around the lead characters, Lolita and Shekhar. Since childhood, Shekhar and Lolita have been friends and slowly this friendship blossoms into love. A series of misunderstandings surface and both of them are separated with the conniving schemes of Shekhar's father. The plot deepens with the arrival of Girish who supports Lolita's family. Eventually, Shekhar's love defies his father's greed and he seeks Lolita.
The film has several notable allusions to the Indian literature and cinema. Despite the pre-release inhibitions, it received critical acclaim and. It won the Filmfare Awards apart from several prominent awards. The director went on to win the National Award for Best First Film.[2] The film was also showcased at prominent International film festivals.
Plot
The film places the story in Kolkata (Calcutta). As the credits roll, scenes from the erstwhile Calcutta are displayed along with the narrator's (Amitabh Bachchan) introduction of the era. The narration focuses on the night of the marriage of Shekhar and Gayatri Tantiya, a rich industrialist's daughter. The audience is introduced to Navin Rai as Shekhar's father while we see Shekhar readying himself for the occasion. While he is doing that, images of Lalita calling him by his name flash through his mind. Downstairs, musical celebrations begin as Shekhar meets Vasundhara, a widow from his neighborhood, who is thankful to her son-in-law, Girish (Sanjay Dutt), for supporting their family after the death of her husband, Gurcharan. Lalita, who is present there, playfully confronts Shekhar as to why he is being indifferent to her. Shekhar admonishes her for speaking so in spite of being married.
An angry Shekhar comes back home to play a favorite tune from the past on his piano. The flashback shows a young Shekhar playing the Rabindranath Tagore’s tune on his piano while young Lalita and Koel are around. Lalita, with her parents having died in a car accident, lives with Gurcharan’s family with Koel as her cousin whereas Charu is her neighbor. As this scene flashes across Shekhar’s mind, he sings a song full of sadness and loss. As time flies, they grow up to become close friends. A rebellious and musically inclined Shekhar, spends his days playing the music of Rabindranath Tagore or Elvis Presley and composing his own songs with Lalita, rather than becoming part of his shrewd father's world of profit and business. Part of this rebellion involves resistance to meeting Gayatri Tantia, the beautiful but devious daughter of a wealthy industrialist, whom his father would like Shekhar to marry into. Meanwhile, Girish, a steel tycoon from London, makes a dramatic entry into Charu’s house. Girish seems smitten by Lalita whereas Koel is by Girish. Shekhar is visibly jealous of Lalita’s close friendship with Girish.
One day, a shocked Lalita, who’s employed at the Ray’s office, realises of a hotel project from Gurcharan’s ancestral haveli (palatial house). On an earlier occasion, Gurcharan had borrowed money from Navin Ray after putting his haveli on mortgage. She understands that if the money is not be repaid in a few months, Navin Ray would take over the property. She immediately thinks of asking Shekhar for monetary help. Unforeseen circumstances prevent this and Girish upon realising this, alleviates their problem by making Gurcharan his business partner. Gurcharan repays the debt and the turn of events prompts Shekhar to think why Lalita chose to ask Girish for money instead of him. On one auspicious night, Shekhar and Lalita exchange garlands and consummate their "marriage" unbeknownst to anyone else.
While Shekhar is off to Darjeeling on a business trip, Navin Ray violently thunders on Lalita about the loss of his hotel project embarrassing and humiliating her. Ray gets a wall built between his and Gurcharan’s house symbolizing the end of their association. Gurcharan unable to digest this faces a heart attack. Upon Shekhar’s return, Ray informs him of the ill-health of his mother and Gurcharan and viciously adds a note of Lalita and Girish’s marriage. Shekhar is disgusted to hear of the marriage and in the anger he scowls at Lalita, humiliating her like his father. In the meanwhile, Girish assists the Gurcharan family and takes them to London for the heart treatment. Misunderstandings follow and upon the family’s return from London, Shekhar assumes that Girish and Lalita are married and agrees to marry Gayatri. The film returns to the night of Shekhar’s marriage when Girish hands him the ownership papers of Gurcharan’s haveli. He shocks Shekhar by telling him that he got married to Koel because Lalita denied his marriage proposal. As a conclusion, Shekhar confronts his father and symbolically breaks down the wall separating the two families. He then brings Lalita to his home as his bride much to the delight of his mother.

Raima Sen Koel. Lalita's playful, mischievous and cheerful cousin who's lively, peppy and lives every moment.

Movie: Lage Raho Munna Bhai Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan, Boman Irani, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Dia Mirza, Jimmy Shergill, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Saurabh, Shukla
Music by Shantanu Moitra
Lage Raho Munna Bhai (Hindi: लगे रहो मुन्नाभाई, pronounced [ˈləɡeː ˈɾəhoː mʊnːaːˈbʱaːɪ] ( listen); English: Carry on Munna Bhai) is a 2006 Indian musical comedy film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is the second film in the popular Munna Bhai series of Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt stars in this film as Munna Bhai, a Mumbai (Bombay) underworld don, who begins to see the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi. Through his interactions with the image of Gandhi, Munna Bhai begins to practice what he calls Gandhigiri (Satyagraha, non-violence, and truth) to help ordinary people solve their problems. His sidekick, Circuit, is portrayed by Arshad Warsi.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai has had a strong cultural impact in India, popularising Gandhism under Munna Bhai's notion of Gandhigiri.[4][5][6] As noted by critics,[6][7] the film has "stirred the popular imagination," leading to a number of Gandhigiri protests in India and in the United States: "For generations born after Gandhi's assassination, Munnabhai, the eponymous hero of the film, has rendered 'Gandhism' passé and 'Gandhian' arcane. The new buzzword is 'Gandhigiri,' a value, and valuable, addition to the lexicon of a culture suffused with every abominable kind of 'Dadagiri' and 'Goondagiri.' "[7]
The film was generally well-received by both critics and the mass audience. It was a box office success and was elevated to a "blockbuster" rating on Box Office India after grossing over Rs. 720 million. It is the recipient of a number of awards, including four National Film Awards.[8][9] Lage Raho Munna Bhai is the first Hindi film to be shown at the United Nations,[10][11] and also played to a packed house of mostly French students who "clapped till the credits were finished" during the Tous Les Cinema du Monde section of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.[12][13] The Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, praised the film, stating that it "captures Bapu's (Father, in this case - Gandhi) message about the power of truth and humanism."
I have this DVD.
Song: Pal Har Pal, the tune is from a western songwhich I can't recall now.

Regarding Suman Kalyapur and Lata Mangeshkar, they were put together in the movie Janwaar and Suman had the clearer voice. But I believe Lata is the better singer as she was trained from childhood by her father. Just my opinion, though. Also Lata was engaged in a wage dispute as she had 4 sisters and a younger brother to support so she wanted Mohd. Rafi to join her in her campaign to have equal share with music directors instead of rate pay. Mohd. Rafi refused thus the break in their romantic duets. Lata teamed with Mukesh and Rafi with her sister Asha Bhosle. Suman Kalyanpur appeared in the picture in the early sixties but didn't do more. I don't know what happened. Did she die early?
It is here where Suman and Lata sing together but the poster put Asha which is wrong as I have the dvd.
Song: Aankhon Aankhon Mein

No she is very well alive. Healthy and Homely.
She recently got the Lata Mangeshkar Award for her contribution to Hindi film music. Lots of gossip about her not making to top.
The reasons would be
1. Exceptional singing by Lata and Asha providing both ends of the spectrum. So chance for new talents to break out, was less.
2. Public liking for mangeshkar sisters was high so casting them was "must" for any film / music director to make the music hit.
3. Personal reasons such as Family, Low self steem, average PR etc.
I believe she was married so it makes a difference. I guess she was a copy so with Lata still around it would be difficult. Lata was not maried so she could devote all her efforts to her career. She made long lasting relationships with most of the music directors like Shankar Jaikishan, S.D.Burman then his son R.D. Burman, Madan Mohan, Naushad, Salil Chowdhury, etc.

Yep. In the early 40's and 50's working in the movies for a lady was not considered a white collar job. So many actresses were either beyond this social stigma such as very rich, highly educated ones or whose families lie in the show biz or a few from brothel houses.
E.g. actress Sandhya was said to be a vegetable hawker but some believed that the great film maker V. Shantaram (maker of Do Ankhe Barah Haath / Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani / Jhanak Jhanak Payal baje) found her out when he visited a brothel house in Kolhapur. She was totally illiterate but impressed V. Shantaram with spark in expressions and dancing abilitities. He later married her.
Great man V. Shantaram and fantastic Artist Sandhya!
