Make sure you are not inadvertently touching the pointing device.
Keyboard legs fold under, and the keyboard bumps the touchpad. People rest their wrists on the laptop keyboard, and brush their hands across the touchpad by accident.
Another cause could be if you are using a laptop with a touchpad, you are inadvertently touching the pad in the middle of typing. This would re-adjust where your cursor hits on the page.
