Ok, I'm thinking of trying to make a portal and I don't feel like building from scratch. I'm open to suggestions, but let me explain what I'd like to have.

1. User Authenticitation, I want to be able to have people log in and out.

2. Message Boards/Chats

3. 'Blog style news area.

4. A way to list other sites--kinda like Yahoo's set up with categories and subcategories.

I would consider some sort of "Frankenstein" set up, with different systems for different functions; as long as they all use PHP and MySql underneath.

You can also use nuke, easy CMS etc etc. It all depends on what you want to do.
