@panzade,
The original "Cape Fear" was not nominated for any awards. The 1991 version garnered nominations for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Robert De Niro and Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Juliette Lewis.

@Lightwizard,
having seen both, DeNiro tried his best but I think he was haunted by Mitchum's take on the role...it never smacked true

@panzade,
I thought the tats and the hyped-up thug characteristics harmed the suspense and mystery that was in the original.

I thought that as far as a romantic co-star, he was at his best with Marilyn Monroe's in "The River of No Return.," even with the script problems.

I remember the hamburger incident. A tabloid splashed it all over the front page.

My favourite Mitchum quote - from the Guardian's obit:

Robert Mitchum proposes to his wife:

'Stick with me, kid, and you'll be farting through silk.'

@panzade,
So is what he said to the party when he came out as the hamburger, but I don't remember what it was. He had an off-color, wry sense of humor.

@Lightwizard,
Well, it was simple, "This is a masquerade party, isn't it? Well, I'm a hamburger."

I don't think anybody ever revealed how big the pickle was on the hamburger.

@Lightwizard,
All I could recall from the tabloid article was the "I'm a hamburger" part. It's not a flattering story. Still, he didn't hurt anyone.

@edgarblythe,
The lines remind me of the old joke about the Bugs Bunny inside a front loading washing machine looking out of the window. Asked what he was doing in there, he asked, "Isn't this a Westinghouse?"

"Well, yes."

"Then I'm just in here westing."
