How difficult would you say this riddle is?

I've composed a riddle, and am wondering how difficult it is. Knowing the answer, I can't tell if I'm giving too much information, or being too cryptic.

The house on the hill holds many tenants.
None pay rent, and several would be evicted, for the good of the property,
But there is no landlord.
Several of the residents take care of some of the maintenance,
But for the most part, they are indifferent to how the rest of the work gets done.
Some are transients, staying only for a short while.
Others are long term residents.
A few stay for their entire life.
Some come to raise a family.
Others come to live out the rest of their life in solitude.
Very few care about their neighbors,
It's cold in the winter, and hot in the summer.
Many only stay while the weather is nice,
They have other homes to live in while the foundation of this place is covered in snow.
Some reside year round.
The chap who dug the basement suite has big ears and is very shy.
The lady on the second floor is struggling to feed her babies.
Their father is a singer, and he tries hard to support his family.
There is a young lad who lives in the attic,
and is often seen running through the halls.
There is running water, but none of the residents can get at the pipes,
There are no windows, but everyone gets plenty of light.
What color is the house?


The Answer:


Green in the summer, red in the autumn, black or brown in the winter. The house is in fact a tree.
