THE FOSSIL EVIDENCE IN OUR CHROMOSOMES
Chromosome 2 in human genome and whats called 2a and 2b in chimpanzees. In 1982 two scientists published genetic data from chimps , gorillas, and orangutans. They showed that the chromosomes from these species could be aligned with each other. The Human Genome Project and the chimp genome projects expanded this data by showing that every chimpanzee chromosome has a matching chromosome in the human genome. The exception is human chromosome 2 which matches two different chromosomes in chimps.
The two chimp chromosomes are 2(a) and 2(b).
There were three possible explanations to these chromosomes
.According to Fairbanks(2007)
1If humans and chimps share a common ancestor chromosome 2 may have formed by fusing two chromosomes after the lineage leading to modern humans split off from a common ancestor.
2a and 2b might have resulted from fission of an ancestral chromosome after chimps and humans split from their common ancestor
3 Humans and Chimps may have originated separately with no evolution relationship to each other. As Fairbanks said, the similarity isnt a record of common ancestry but is an illusion of it.
In 1992 DNA analyses provided the answer. Geneticists at YAle sequenced DNA from the site in the middle of the human and chimp chromosome 2 area. The "telomeres" which are the "end caps" of each chromosome , ar repeated in the central point of the human chromosome 2. In other words, the end cap of the two chimp chromosome s have been repeated and added to the "fused" chromosome 2 of the human genome. Due to an ability to view these chromosomes as "mirror slices" of each other. This evidences that the telomeres of the chimp have. been embedded within the central portion of the human chromosome 2. Further, there is evidence that significant mutation of the telomere area has occured in the human chromosome 2 since this fusion had occured. This pretty much proves away the "fission" and the "no evolution option".
By the Human genome project and comparing these two critical chromosome areas, ther can be no explanation involving "Creationist thought" or "panspermia" or ID in the relationship between humans and chimps.
