THE MORALITY OF DEFENDING OTHERS ?

Will u reveal your opinion of that,
against the background of no evidence qua whether
the bad guy 'd allow the victims to survive or not ?

I would consider it very irresponsible of you to begin a shootout over property but not over a legitimate defense against physical harm.

As most police would advise, the contents of your wallet aren't enough to risk your life or the lives of those around you. If the lives around you are at legitimate risk, it's obviously a very different story.

So, according to u,
we are NOT supposed to consider defensive situations ??
Thay r on some POLITICALLY CORRECT banned list, maybe ?

I hope everyone has noticed that I am NOT politically correct.
I avoid that as much as possible,
tho unfortunately, thay agree with me on some issues.
(I cannot prevent that.)

big difference, police are paid to carry guns

That is a BIG surprize to me.
I did not think that ANYONE wud care about THAT.
To MY mind, that is a quintessential triviality.

<sigh> I wish EVERYONE had contempt for society.

@OmSigDAVID,
no, i think you're some limp dick with a gun fetish, like 99.9% of the crack pots who support the right to bear arms (i have no problem with hunters or target shooters, but nobody who isn't in some form of law enforcement needs to carry a gun around the street)

That is a curse; that someone shud end up in a gun fight.
U appear to wish to demean and degrade the mentalities
of those whose opinions r other than your own.

That almost happened about maybe 15 years ago, give or take.
I was driving home from my girlfriend 's house alone on the road,
except for one car around 1 AM, when the car pulled exactly abreast
of mine and a bullethole appeared in my driver 's side window,
about 3 inches forward of my position. The other car exactly
kept pace with mine in the lane to my left. It was very dark out.
However, my defensive weapon of choice was a .44 revolver
in stainless steel mirror. When I prepared to defend myself,
I did not even have a chance to think about lining up a shot
b4 the driver of the other car apparently decided he had somewhere else
to go n it accelerated out of sight rather swiftly.

I hope that satisfies u, Mr. 62.

Winston Churchill said that there is nothing so exhilarating
as to be shot at with no effect. I did not feel exhilarated,
but I did get a little chuckle out of it; that and a fx window.

Perhaps this has been disabled ?

No. I, for one, do not agree with you on that point.

The police are properly trained in these situations and it is their job to uphold the law. It was not the job of the fool who got himself shot and put the lives of people around him at risk.

@OmSigDAVID,
The driver shot your drivers side window and pulled alongside of you on the left?????? Unless you were driving a care in England, your driver side window is on your right!!!!

Not that I really care whether this is a fabrication or happened in your mind.

Oh, and what were you saying about font enlargement not working?

It saddens me that u lower yourself to say things like that,
tho its no surprize, since supporters of victim disarmament, such as yourself,
say it so ofen; u just don 't stop hammering away about that.
Its rude, but of no consequence, like an annoying dog 's bark.

I 'm not angry; nor have I ever suffered from a sexual dysfunction.
(It seems odd that u take an interest in the state of my sexuality.)

Indeed, my intense interest in handguns began (that I remember)
around age 3. I remember lying in bed at that age, envisioning my
misappropriation of not only of the revolver of a police officer,
or bank guard, but the entire rig. I never committed this act.
I only thought about it. At that age and for the next 5 years,
I was gunless.

I wonder how many 1000s of citizens met premature deaths
because thay agreed with u about walking around in a state of helplessness.
In my opinion, that is irresponsible and negligent;
the same as failure to wear a seatbelt in your car.

Truely: its a lot better to HAVE a gun and not NEED it,
than it is to NEED a gun and not HAVE it.

What a strange thing to say!
U have utterly perplexed me.
In American cars, the steering wheel is on the left,
and therefore the driver MUST sit there.
The driver 's window is obviously on the left; what r u thinking ?

No, I am not mad. I do, however, apologize for misreading the post and making the error in thinking it was the passenger window. Thank you for the clarification. I hope I am not getting senile.

Sorry if you lack the necessary aptitude to change the fonts. Given your past use of colour and fonts, I apologize in advance for not helping you with this.

APTITUDE?
In order to change the fonts now we need APTITUDE ?

I predict that Mr. Gentel will come to my rescue on this.

Hey I'm not helping anyone make such ugly posts. All the nested quotes and large fonts on this page make it a pain to read.

That is a definite possibility.
My Internet Explorer kept crashing
and tho my computer was supposed to be superfast,
it was superslow, so I changed to Firefox
and there have been some changes with it.
That might be the trouble.
I activated the zoom in to make it easier to read small fonts.

Thank u for thinking of that.

David
P.S.
I still owe u an answer.

oh happy day, just type like a normal person

In normal conversation,
a normal person raises n lowers his voice
and employs body language & manual gestures to get his points across.

I wish to be able to lay greater stress on SOME words,
as distinct from others, for the same reason
that we do not speak in a monotone all the time.

Its more expressive.
I think that 's a good thing to do.

How wrong you are.

My position has remained constant. My original post was intended to question the assumption the customer was a Death Wish imitator. Robert and edgar's post, obviously, question David's assumption that he was a hero.

I'm not sure why you insist that training in deadly force has any relevance. One need not receive extensive training to carry a concealed weapon. You may wish to argue that one should, but the failure to follow training one may never have received is hardly proof the guy was playing Charlie Bronson.

If you think the story offers enough evidence to draw your conclusion, so be it. I don't agree and I think that anyone who can appreciate the complexity of the situation vs the simplicity of the story won't either.
