For some mysterious reason, this story’s barely made a blip in the news. Guess the American media’s just been too darn busy gushing over Michelle Obama’s arms.
A 75-year-old Saudi Arabian widow has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for “mingling” with two young men who were not close relatives. One was her late husband’s nephew and the other was his business partner. Ah, the beauty of Islamic Sharia law.
One can’t help but notice the media’s striking lack of concern for women outside the United States. It’s rare to hear more than a whisper of protest from any print or broadcast media.
And the big name women’s organizations? Silent as Marcelle Marceau despite the fact that they’re always the first to say, “It’s one world. We’re one family of people. We’re all brothers and sisters.” Yet when confronted with horrible abuse in Muslim nations, the typical response is, “We must understand. We must not be so quick to criticize, because its their culture.”...
I'm a woman. On every level the abuses toward women appall me and most sane people. But if you're going to ask the american media to write about every single atrocity I think you'd turn off the american public more than they already are to news, cause it's already mostly bad news.
However if you must continue your endless tiring rant against what the american media continues to print or not print, you might want to start with the truth, ban whitewashing and fixating on the minuscule whilst the big picture stares them in the face and they blindly march by. The Rush Limbaugh's shouting out platitudes all the while ignoring any truths contrary to their dogma.
The national newspapers of all stripes continually ignore the world unless it involves an american interest. Even horrors that occur in your own cities create no real outrage, so why find these obscure, horrible acts that wouldn't cause your neighbours to flinch and jump up and down on the media.
And why continue to torture the rest of us.
