Dragon speech recognition software

I have a friend who had very arthritic fingers & can't very well use a keyboard. Our retirement community is becoming very computerized & we wonder whether Dragon (or something similar) would be helpful. Does anyone here have experience with Dragon? Am I right that you speak into a mike & the program shows it on the screen?

@Tomkitten,
I have not used Dragon, but the built-in speech recognition software on my MAC seems to work pretty well so Dragon is probably at least that good.

I've copied out all your comments and suggestions, and am sending them to my friend with the badly arthritic fingers. She will be inheriting a MAC, though. Will these programs work on a Mac?
