I am thinking of writing a book. I have no prior experience and have some questions. Are you allowed to use the name of companies that you are tallking about and names of website buisnesses without getting permission? Or is there a copyright thing that prevents me from being able to use companies names in my book without there permission. Thanks.Ken

My uneducated opinion would be that you don't need their prior permission. Journalists don't need it to write a news story about a company. However, it is general operating procedure for most journalists and news agencies to contact the company to verify facts and/or get their side of the story in order to avoid lawsuits.

One of our legal folks or published authors will be along any minute to better answer your question. In the meantime, welcome to A2K. Let us know if you need any help finding your way around the hallways here.
