Well, you still need to be more specific. A good pet for you is not necessarily a good pet for me.

Very true - almost any breed is a good pet, but some are not good with children, some need lots of exercise, some are lap dogs, some are protective, etc.

What sort of dog do you want? How will he fit into your lifestyle? And remember you will need to raise him for the rest of his life, not just as a cute puppy. It is a huge lifetime responsibility.

Many years ago, some close friends bred Samoyeds. When they retired and moved to the northern redwood country, they kept four of their dogs. They were treated as if they were their children, loved and well cared for. They were loving pets and behaved themselves in the house. They were great among children as well as adults. The woman saved the fur brushed from the dogs and spun it into wool. Then she knitted beautiful and soft white sweaters, hats and scarves for her friends. When the couple died the dogs were sent to their daughter to live out their lives.

I liked those Samoyeds a lot.
