What is:
A place of water, in the middle of a place of fire,
A place of life, in the middle of a place of scorched earth,
A place of regeneration, in the middle of a place of depletion,
A place of gathering, in the middle of a place of wandering?

What is:
I would guess a spring of water. Or watering hole. Water whether literally or metaphorically is life.
dude, you're at a camp fire right? you pour water over the fire. after you pour the water on the scorched earth, the soil will soak it up and the plants will grow. You're burning off the leaves on the ground, but new plants will grow. you gather round the camp fire after wandering through the forest.
