Disabling Norton Internet Security

Reply Sat 17 Jan, 2009 01:24 pm
I had to uninstall and reinstall my printer software. At one point in the process, the printer program informed me that I should disable my virus program after I downloaded it, and while it was installing on my computer. I have Norton Internet Security. For the life of me, I could not figure out how to disable the program.

I used to have Norton Virus Scan. With that program, all you had to do was right click the icon on the taskbar, and you were and there was a place where you could close the program. There is nothing like that on this program.

Does anyone know how to disable Norton Internet Security?

BTW, it worked out for me. I downloaded the updated program from the internet, and then turned off my modem when the program installed. I still want to know how to disable the darn thing!

STEP 1
Log on using the Supervisor account
1 Start Norton Internet Security.
2 In the Norton Internet Security window, in the left pane, click User Accounts.
3 The account that you are logged on as is displayed after "you are logged on as:" If you are logged on as Supervisor, go to "To turn on or turn off Norton Internet Security."If you are not logged on as Supervisor, go to line 4 of this STEP.
4 Click Log Off.

5 In the Confirm dialog box, click Yes.
6 Click Log On.
7 In the Log on dialog box, in the Account Name list, click Supervisor.
8 In the Password field, type your password. If you have never assigned a password to the Supervisor account, leave this field blank.
9 Click OK. You should see the text "You are logged on as: Supervisor."

STEP 2
Turn on or turn off Norton Internet Security
1 Start Norton Internet Security.
2 In the left pane, click Status & Settings.
3 Click Security.
4 Click Turn on or Turn off.

Chumly- Thanks for trying to help. The problem is, in my Norton Internet Security Window, there is nothing about "user accounts".

@Phoenix32890,
Are you logged on using the Supervisor account? If you are not logged on as Supervisor, go to line 4.......

So it would appear you'll need to log on correctly firstly!

Lame A2K software crashed again and so my above post could not be edited.

OK so you cannot log on as indicated, try the Norton knowledge base search, however have you logged onto Windows as a Supervisor? Not that that would help for sure or even if that is what they are saying for sure but it might be the case.

@Chumly,
I never log on or off. It seems to me that when I got this computer, I kept it as "Administrator".
