Is there a tool that will remove duplicate files from a hard drive? Because I download a lot of music both karaoke and regular and because a lot of cd's both karaoke and regular have duplicate songs on them i end up with a **** load of duplicates on my hard drives taking up room.

Is there a software or downloadable tool that will go through my hard dives and remove duplicate songs?

well thank you....that was very informative. Let me ask another question Captain Literal... would anyone who has access to such a tool be willing to share information on it with me and tell me what it is and where to obtain it?

@Bi-Polar Bear,
I personally haven't tried any of them, but I did a search for duplicate file remover and saw a lot of results (including free software).

Based on a quick scan of the results here's the one I'd try first:

thanks robert... I tied it first on my main C drive and it came up with thousands of duplicates.... only problem is you have to hand select each dup to send to the showers.... way too time consuming. I need (or I want) one that will sense the dups for me and make them go away.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
Defrag used to have a remove duplicate files option in its advanced mode. Plus getting a bigger hard drive may work.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
OK I've had my fun, seeing as I am in the same boat vis-a-vis mp3's.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
It's a self executing file, assuming you downloaded it to the desktop (or wherever's convenient) you simply double click the icon, follow the prompts for the install, then once you have it installed, you can find it via start / programs / easycleaner.

So what did I get for Xmas?
