@Ticomaya,

This week I have been mainly playing "Down in the Hole" from The Wire tho' that's played on a bass fiddle on the soundtrack.

If one were to attempt to measure the amount of funk in this photo...one would find that their scale would be totally funked up.

@2PacksAday,
The first, and last, time I ate psychedelic mushrooms was at a P-Funk concert. I was peaking when Bootsy made his epic entrance. I literally thought I had died.

great thread

I always liked Chuck Rainey's bass on Steely Dan's "Peg"

skip to 1:09 where he explains how he recorded the bass line

@panzade,
I would love to get my hands on a mixing board like that...with access to any masters I wanted to play with.

Just dropping in this thread to tell you guys some sad news...my computer speakers died, the main wire that ran to the controls was nearly ripped in half....and the wires are just so tiny, I can't do anything with them....I managed to get one of the tweeters to work...so I do have sound, but it's about as bad as an old AM radio, basically no bass to speak of....it's been bad enough without regular bass, but I've had no sub-woofer for several weeks now, and I am experiencing severe withdraw symptoms....I am not kidding. I know most of "my" songs by heart, so I've been filling in the bass lines in my head as I listen...but that just sucks....double face palm.

Sigh, anyway.....is anyone else familiar with a song called "Chocolate City" by Zapp? I didn't find it on youtube, but I know a few of you in this thread also like Zapp, well, one for sure.....I would consider it funk, but was wondering if it falls more into some other catagory....light funk...heavy soul...deep R&B...or something.

Yeah that's the one, thanks RP.

I have the song...just can't really enjoy it as it was meant. I've have it in one form or another.....tape/cd, and now mp3....since the mid 80's I guess, along with most anything that Zapp or Roger {Troutman brothers} released. Perhaps somebody will give it a listen and let me know if it's "true" funk or some offshoot.
