i understand html and i think i can put a web site together using just html. if i put a website like dreamweaver, how can i get that site online?

with sites like yahoo and stuff, the page editors seem limited, in that they dont allow you to change around the html. i just want to build and edit my site with dreamweaver, then copy and paste the html to some web host person, and upload all the picures i need to.

my problem is that i dont know where to find a host person. is my conception of web publishing incorrect? are there more steps involved? I just want to build my own site with jsut html and put it on line.

help!!!!!!!!!!!

you must rent space from a hosting provider like one will be offered here soon, then you must ftp the files to the host. this is providing you have registered a domain.

dreamerweaver is program to create a website

You can create the html with dreamweaver and upload the files to a site. You don't have to use an online page editor.

You should probably try a free host until you get the concept.

Try http://www.tripod.lycos.com/ and use FTP.

Edit: yes you got it.

Tripod UK has php and MySQL and is the place to learn those languages.

But once you have a site for visitors you should avoid the free hosts.

Well, the axiom is that you don't get it till you pay for hosting.

Free hosts usually have a TOS that enables them to own all the content you host with them (for limited purposes).

They have ridiculous limitations.

They cause code to malfunction when they inject ads.

They have bandwidth limits and they are usually so low that you can't have a decent audience.

They are sLOW.

They are unreliable.

They are butt ugly.

People do not respect free hosts......

There are many reasons, but the bottom line is that for a couple dollars a month you can do much better. Free hosts are butt ugly and they frequently do things to make your hosting with them unwise.

And the number one reason:

ALWAYS own the address that you are building popularity for.

There is a reason free hosts offer free hosting, and that is because the number one result of all your work goes to them: link popularity.

You want to own the address.

This site has good reviews & information about hosts charging 10 bucks or less a month (sufficient for a big majority of websites): www.10-cheapwebhosting.com
