on understanding i'd say no

on being able to survive an encounter with a frozen pond, it depends on a number of factors

i once saw a very young black lab, only a few months old, bolt onto a frozen pond and crash through the ice, the dog began to swim towards the shore, about 10 feet, pulled itself onto the ice and made it's way back to land, the pup was safe although very cold and very tired

Water breeds will probably survive more easily than some others. A dog with claws completely intact will be much more able to pull himself out of the water onto ice than will one with highly manicured claws cut short.

beefy dogs with heavy coats like st bernards and newfies prolly stand a better chance than scrawnier ones like greyhounds and toy dogs...
