@Butrflynet,

Depends on the location. Sometimes I don't feel anything but hear the windows rattle slightly. Other times I don't feel or hear anything but realize I have a feeling of motion sickness and will check the USGS website to find we had a minor tremor. Most of the time it is indistinguishable between a quake and a heavy bus or truck going by on a nearby street and I make note of the time to see if any nearby quakes occurred at that time.

Seismic activity depends on where you live. Los Angeles is criss-crossed with hundreds of fault lines..

I lived through at least a dozen quakes myself, the big one in March 1933 and four others, all over the six category.

Quote:
An earthquake measuring 4.5 rattled the Parkfield area east of Coalinga at shortly after midnight, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter was about five miles northwest of Parkfield and 16 miles southwest of Coalinga.

There were no reports of damage.

Parkfield is where seismologists have embedded instrumentation along the San Andreas Fault to study temblors in an effort to figure out how quakes might be predicted.
