Little is known about the candidate, Barack Obama, as his very limited
public office experience leaves us without much to go on. A recent visit to
the website, "Project Vote Smart" revealed some very interesting
information. It seems that Mr. Obama completed a Political Courage Test for
the Illinois State Legislative Election 1998 National Political Awareness
Test.

On the test, Barack Obama revealed the following:

a.. Ban the sale or transfer of all forms of semi-automatic weapons.
b.. Increase state restrictions on the purchase and possession of
firearms.
c.. Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks with firearms.
On his voting record, Barack Obama voted against the firearm manufacturer
protection bill. This is the bill that protects firearm retailers,
distributors, and manufacturers from being sued for the wrongful actions of
private citizens.

By comparison, John McCain completed the Congressional Election 2004
National Political Awareness Test. On the test, John McCain revealed the
following:

a.. Maintain and strengthen the current level of enforcement of existing
federal restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns.
b.. Allow citizens to carry concealed guns.
c.. Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks on guns.
d.. Require background checks on gun sales between private citizens at gun
shows.
e.. Support legislation that would protect manufacturers, distributors,
dealers, and importers of firearms from civil lawsuits by crime victims.
John McCain voted in favor of the firearm manufacturer protection bill.

While these tests are a few elections old, it should give us reasonable
insight as to how the candidate's would be likely to address gun-rights
issues.
