New Mexico, a battleground swing state going democrat;
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - A poll commissioned by the Albuquerque Journal finds that Democrat Tom Udall leads Republican Steve Pearce in the race for U.S. Senate.

The poll says Udall has the backing of 51 percent of likely voters, while Pearce has the support of 36 percent. Thirteen percent of the voters are undecided.

The poll was conducted by Research & Polling Incorporated of Albuquerque, which interviewed 659 registered voters statewide from September 29th to October 2nd.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

But perhaps all will change soon since McCain will be in Albuquerque and NM today.

@dyslexia,
McCain's attack dog, Palin, is way below sleazy. Udall should win handily.

@Walter Hinteler,
One more reason New Mexico rejects Pearce;

An Albuquerque religious group met Sunday to present its economic worries to candidates for Congress, but only one showed up.

Senate candidates Tom Udall and Steve Pearce were invited to Sunday’s assembly along with First Congressionanl District candidates Darren White and Martin Heinrich. However, Udall was the only member of the invitees to attended the meeting at Saint Charles Borromeo Church near University Boulevard and Coal Ave. He met with more than 500 religious leaders to hear their concerns about the economy.

"For a guy who has already authored two memoirs, he's not exactly an open book": John McCain - the author of five books, incidentally - seeks to sow suspicions about Obama in Albuquerque yesterday.

A voice in the crowd responds "Terrorist!" to McCain's rhetorical question, "Who is the real Barack Obama?" McCain appeared to hear, and flinched slightly - but did not otherwise respond.

(Today's Albuquerque Journal, pages 1 and 2.)
