Two US companies, which want strengthen their engagement on the European market, have either been elected to a Board (ex-Bertelsmann chief Thomas Middelhoff joined the board of the New York Times Comapany already) or are invited to it ( BMW chief Helmut Panke to join Microsoft Corp.)
The New York Times will obviously publish an own European edition, Microsoft tries to get global perspective to the board - Panke being the only non-US-member.

"Obviously"? I thought they already have one -- kind of. It's called the
International Herald Tribune, which used to be a joint venture with the Washington Post but is now a 100% New York Times daugter.
Correct.
But that didn't change their idea of publishing a "European New York Times" besides the IHT. (Which might actually just be an idea, as I heard yesterday on the radio.)
