Rodney Mullen Freestyle Skateboarding

I put this video at 1982, give or take 2 years. You are too young to remember skateboarding in this form.

On youtube it says it's in 1984 in Japan. I would have been old enough to remember this style if I'd seen it back then, but I didn't. Was it a common style?

My first skateboard was narrower than this one (it was also metal...) and I remember learning these spins and balancing tricks. A few years later the board had widened, the half pipe was gaining popularity and skating seemed to move toward grittier grinding and aerobatics. I remember a lot of street skating in the parking garages of downtown Houston - those were the days...
