U remind me
of about 15 years ago, when the NYC Demos rented a schoolbus
and drove around from poll to poll and back again, the inhabitants
of a nursing home for the mentally impaired.
There were no Republican poll watchers to challenge the Demos.

That is the reason that I will vote in support of its candidate;
otherwise, I 'd be trapped into voting for someone whose filosofy is repugnant.
I support laissez faire free enterprize and Constitutional Originalism

YES, but I strongly dissent from her position
on abortion and stem cell research.

From its origin,
Mensa has prohibited itself from adopting political positions,
or any philosophical positions.
Our members make up their own minds individually n independently.

Some people have observed that trying to lead Mensans
is like trying to herd cats.

Callous indifference to the plight of poor people? Not ruled out.

@Rockhead,
Gosh Rockhead, you've opened my eyes to reality!

The Democrats have been broadcasting ads with the message:

"If you're an idiot, don't vote Democratic!"

If fact, Obama has announced he will not accept the votes of idiots.

Whereas the Republicans have been working hard to secure the idiot vote.

You must be voting Republican this year.

I do not accept your assessment of Sarah's mental abilities.
Within a very short time,
she rose to the Governorship of America 's largest State.
(That 's better than I did.)

She has been associated with Alaska 's libertarian Republicans.
That 's what I like; another Barry Goldwater ?

For the sake of argument:
if it were true that her mental abilities were limited,
as u allege; (analogizing to a tug-of-war) even if her traction
power were not strong, at least she will pull the rope IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION !

About 30 years ago, I founded and lead a Special Interest Group
of Mensa (the Opulent Mensan SIG). I lead with a libertarian approach,
which is to advertize my forthcoming events,
and those Mensans who r interested call me, reserve and attend.
With this approach, I have had little of the dreaded and quoted
Mensan leadership phenomenon; I have no complaints.

The NYC Demos CORNERED the idiot vote
in a school bus that thay loaded up from a nursing home
for the mentally incapacitated, and drove it around
to many polling places with no GOP poll watchers,
to have them vote many, many times.

THAT was the relevance, Rocky.

Bee -- I am glad you posted this. I have long been appalled at the utter meanness, rudeness, anti-social ranting of the American right. There was a recent update on yahoo on the life of Elien Gonzalez who a decade ago was forcibly returned to his father.

The comments that followed were beyond the pale. So much hatred was expressed.

If the Republicans feel they represent the majority of Americans, why are they so hateful in their speech?

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
When I read the definition of conservatism in the first paragraph, David was immediately brought to mind. He should not find that flattering but he will.

In America, the orthodox party, non-deviant party, is named the "Republican Party".
Those people who advocate deviation (liberalism) from the Original Constitution (as amended)
have no logical reason to be in the party that opposes deviation from constitutional priniciples.

No; that is error.

Quote:
What makes people vote Republican? Why in particular do working class and rural Americans usually vote for pro-business Republicans when their economic interests would seem better served by Democratic policies? We psychologists have been examining the origins of ideology ever since Hitler sent us Germany's best psychologists, and we long ago reported that strict parenting and a variety of personal insecurities work together to turn people against liberalism, diversity, and progress. But now that we can map the brains, genes, and unconscious attitudes of conservatives, we have refined our diagnosis: conservatism is a partially heritable personality trait that predisposes some people to be cognitively inflexible, fond of hierarchy, and inordinately afraid of uncertainty, change, and death. People vote Republican because Republicans offer "moral clarity" -- a simple vision of good and evil that activates deep seated fears in much of the electorate. Democrats, in contrast, appeal to reason with their long-winded explorations of policy options for a complex world.
I find several errors herein.
In my own case, I grew up in a libertarian environment,
alone at home most of the time, in my own apartment in our house.
There was no "strict parenting" and personal insecurity ended
upon possessing myself of a small framed .38 caliber Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver.

As to conservatism being a heritable personality trait:
my parents were Roosevelt Democrats, until I converted them,
thru political argument. We voted for Ike, Nixon, Goldwater & Reagan, NOT for "moral clarity"
but in defense of our PERSONAL FREEDOM from the interference of government,
in keeping with the curtailment and strangulation of domestic jurisdiction predominantly in the Bill of Rights.
