'It is no secret that organized crime in America takes in over forty billion dollars a year. This is quite a profitable sum, especially when one considers that the Mafia spends very little for office supplies.'
~ Woody Allen
So are the authorities interested in stopping it? Or just taxing the proceeds???
i have to wonder what the cost of office supplies are for Congress
It is known that democratic regimes are less efficient in fighting organized crime than the dictatorial ones. Mafia enjoyed very few influence in Italy in tenure of Mussolini (he merely did not tolerate the very idea that anyone, except himself, could be a capo di tutti capi[/i]), but I doubt that anyone would like to have the mentioned gentleman in the White House.
Impossibility to eradicate the organized crime is the price the democratic societies pay for maintaining the advanced, open, competitive and humane judicial systems.
