We've already done this one. It's really not that hard to figure it out.

Has to do with the number "9!"

Think about it.

Frank, I didn't realize this little stumper had already been uprooted. I received it in an email from my sister-in-law and thought I'd add a link here.

The oldtime beancounters would occasionally lose their balance, and to avoid tumbling from their high-stools and shedding quill pens, they grabbed onto a technique referred to as "casting out nines." Bob Cratchit would have made short work of this little conundrum.

Always good to share something as interesting as this one. There are several similar ones.

I see if I can find some links for you.

And here is something similar that you might want to send back to your sister-in-law.

Thanks Frank ... I've emailed the Crystal Ball link to sis-in-law. She didn't elaborate whether she has an explanation for the Mind Reader puzzle, but if she does, she won't have much trouble with the Crystal Ball.

I've posted my own explanation of how the Mind Reader does his thing over on Kev's board which you linked. I'll just mention in passing that I'm certainly no math whiz ... I simply have a natural affinity with nine's, being pretty much a square myself. It's when I'm at sixes and sevens that I'm completely at a loss.

I appreciate the links. Smile
