my pc wont shut down using the on screen controls, it goes to the (closing down) screen and stays at that indefinitely I have to shut it down using the on/off button, also it takes ages to open folders and documents etc, I've run Error Smart & Crap Cleaner and defrag, none of which makes any difference, theres 50% of memory left in the hard drive, any suggestions?
Sounds like it's hanging on a windows update, or just has a lot of malware problems.
You could try to clean it all up, but installing Windows in place over your existing Windows install would be the easiest way to fix it if that is the problem.
What Robert Gentel said; make sure you have backups for the stuff you want to save and reload.
Some computers lets you go back to when you first bought the computer without having to download any external programs. Go to Programs, then Accessories. You should find something there like "Restore."
Good luck.
CI... Restore only restores back to the last restore point.
Actually, Windows System Restore can store multiple restore points. But yes, it would rarely go back all the way to when you bought it.
However many manufacturers are now including a partition with an image of the computer as it was when bought that can be restored to, that may be what he's talking about.
thanks for the advice guys
