Hello smart people,
I recently bought a pair of Sony wireless 2.4 Ghz surround sound headphones. They work great, sound great, are super comfortable... only one problem: When I use them, anything that communicates with my wireless router stops working. This becomes an issue when I want to watch a movie while my girlfriend is working on her homework for college, which is pretty much the reason I got headphones in the first place.
I don't want to get rid of the headphones because otherwise they're perfect. I'd rather replace my router if that could help in any way. Or perhaps there are settings on the router that could be changed or manipulated?
The headphones have a Tune button that's supposed to help, but it doesn't work more often than it does.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
IMO, the unlicensed spectrum is becoming too crowded.
I've ended up pulling cable to all but one of the devices in my house. I'm gonna have to pull a cable to it, too, even though it's against an outside wall.
Never mind, I fixed it.
I noticed when I was using the headphones, my laptop would still be able to see my neighbor's Wi-Fi as possible connection options, so I figured it must be some flaw in the router. I loaded up the settings and started mucking about and seeing what happened. I updated my router's firmware, and changed the wireless channel from "11" to "6". I don't really know what a wireless channel is exactly, but hey, it worked! For whatever reason, all my devices now function as they should.
@dantebk,
Wireless channels are made for exactly this purpose, eliminating interference. Wireless phones and wireless routers both tend to have them and both tend to need them. With the phones you can end up picking up the neighbors conversation and with the routers interference can degrade the signal.
