tHE TRAP_ I believe that this was a Canadian make . I remember it from my high school years. Its about a trapper who wins a wife and goes to live in the backwoods. it had Oliver Reed and Rita Tushingham (I think) .

Any of the Harryhausen 'Jason and the Argonauts" with the really primitive stop-action and claymation effects. I think there was a small series of these unless im confusing the sinbad series.

THE HOT ROCKS- Its got Zero Mostel, Robt Redford, george segal, jAcob sands. its a 'caper" movie with great lines and its smoothly cut. I still use "AFGHANISTAN BANANASTAN" whenever I get a chance

Ah, the Hot Rock. That's an excellent film. Hmm, thinking.

One film that's hard to find is Alec Guinness's The Man in the White Suit.

The man in the White Suit was a nicely dark comedy. It had some of the same paths that were presented in "A Face in the Crowd" Andy Griffiths great film.

I've only seen it once. I remember it as being really weird. Of course I recall the eye-cutting scene (a friend who was studying film at the time told me it was the eye of the dead donkey that's dragged around which was cut). Um, that was a poorly constructed sentence if I've ever seen one but I think you know what I mean.

So it's not a fave. Just an oddity that doesn't seem to have found any place in DVD land.

I suspect a lot of Bunuel and Santijay Ray (I bet I misspelled his first name) and stuff like that isn't on DVD. Fellini is because he's better known. There's probably some Kurosawa that's also missing.

I confess I'm more into war pictures, particularly prison breaks, plus intelligent comedy (e. g. nothing gross, but not as sophisticated as drawing-room stuff) and most sci-fi (except for how Lucas has totally squandered the Star Wars franchise, which is kind of sad, IMHO).

Oh, sorry, this thread isn't all about me. Embarrassed

What are your faves?

Golly, I didn't realize that last DVD set (with additional and enchanced CGI) of the "Star Wars" triloby was not the theatrical versions. Are you speaking in terms of there not being the original versions because of the additional effects?

Never heard of The Hill (this doesn't surprise me, there's plenty I've never heard of). I don't even have a DVD player (I tend to watch the releases because usually VHS and/or pay-per-view comes out just about at the same time) and I can relate re Stah Wahs. Squander squander squander, much like Men In Black II. Great concept for a first film, loved by audiences and the sequel was eagerly anticipated and then --- splat.

I will gladly wear 2 small challahs on either side of my head if that can in any way help the series get back on track.

Here's another vote for A Face in the Crowd. I doubt that it would be available on DVD. It wasn't even suitably promoted when it first appeared on the big screen. I seem to recalling seeing it as the second feature on a double bill. (I know that dates me. Some of you will be asking 'What's a double bill?') Andy Griffith had talent. His career was sunk by that horrible Mayberry TV show.

Buñuel's Los Olvidados has recently been put on DVD, and Unesco decided to protect the original copy.

Now here are a few films I'd like to add:

Monsieur Verdoux, by Charles Chaplin
Family Life, by Ken Loach
Lansdcape After the Battle, by Andrzew Wajda
Autobus, by Bay Okan
El Norte, by Gregory Nava
Antonio Das Mortes, by Glauber Rocha
King of Hearts, by Phillippe de Brocca
When Night is Falling, by Patricia Rozema
The Long Night of '43, by Fiorestano Vancini
