Who saw the original and are you planning on seeing the new release?
I saw the original, but don't remember the plot clearly - though I do recall that I loved it. The preview for the new one looks very good. I'll definitely see this one.
Yes...I saw the previous one.
I had no idea there WAS a new one.
Hard to imagine it done as well....but so it goes.
In the original I thought Jeremy Irons was exceptionally good but he also had a very distinct, unusual handsome look. When it first aired I became a huge fan. It was sweeping and long and vague about who loved who and why...
The characters in the new film who play Sebastian and Charles have indistinct appearances-- so much so they look related. I have not seen it yet, but have viewed a clip or two.

Definitely less subtle than the original...looks a little bit dumb.
Hmm, maybe I'll just rent the DVDs of the original instead.
The original was way more subtle and "British" in its restraint. I just viewed some of the old clips and what made it work was the restraint-- everything contained.
One critic said the old series was grainy and you couldn't get as good a sense of the splendor of the mansion as you can in the remake. I say, who cares? Viewing the old clips I get as much of a sense of the scope of the palace I need with a touch of the roughness around its edges.
