I NEED to convert a video to mini DV. Will I be able to do that with my Cannon ZR500? It has both the USB and video/audio imports. I've read that there's a set-up on my vcr that's supposed to let me do this.. is that true? Please let me know.. this has been a two going on three day project!!!

You aren't giving a lot of info to be able to answer your question.
OK..
If your canon zr500 ( a video camera) has video and audio ports in and your vcr has compatible outputs then it is a simple process.
However, when I check the specs for the zr500 it lists no audio and video inputs. It only lists outputs. If that is true then you can't do it with just the camera and the vcr.
Just so you know, copying a video from VCR to miniDV will look no better and probably worse than it does when played with the VCR.
