Bring out yer dead. Mark your calendars of doom in ominous blood-red scrawl, for today is the day that American software beast Microsoft Corp. chopped the retail head off its stalwart XP operating system and held aloft (the still unpopular) Windows Vista as its now unavoidable successor.
If the post made in the wrong section, please move
Vista - The new ME, for being crap.
I have no love for msoft at all.
Nonetheless, ASSUMING you have the horsepower to run it, the newer version of Vista is not hateful in any way. My latest laptop is a Dell 1721 which is about a $800 item on Ebay with 2 gb of ram, a 17" screen, something like 1600x1200 resolution, quarter gig of video memory and a 120 - 160 gb disk and an Athlon dual core X2 chip which nearly runs cold, and Vista is not a problem.
The two applications which I'm used to seeing take time to load are foxpro and the msoft Visual studio and both just snap up on the 1721.
I have an XP, that I have had for about four years. I expect to keep it until it bites the dust. If my computer dies, and Microsoft's new system has not come out yet, (with the first service pack), I might even go to ..................Apple. I would not touch Vista with a ten foot pole.
When my Pentium IV, complete with XP dies, I'm buying a MAC. Never, ever again with MS. Too many crashes, all the dang time. Hate it. And Vista is not even fully compatible with MS Office - how stupid!
