What is a good gift for the coach?

My son's baseball coach is great. A great coach and a great guy.

I have been charged with coming up with an end of season gift for him.

I know that his family struggles financially so something practical, but not too practical would be good.

He's a total family guy so something his family could enjoy would be good.

Any ideas?

I vote for a Nintendo Wii. I gave up on video games years ago but like this one. It's a "whole family" kind of gaming that's fun and can be good exercise.

Thing is, in my price checks it's been a bit more than that.

I don't think they have a backyard.

A Wii might be good! His son is in Mo's class so Mo might know if they have one or not. I'm kind of thinking they do but I'm not sure......

I ran into him at the grocery/superstore not long ago and he was looking at sports watches. I don't know if he was buying or not. I suppose I could check out his wrist and see what he's wearing....

Someone has suggested a gift certificate to a sporting goods store. That sounds good. He's a real sports nut and coaches several teams.

I like the idea of the watch--also the sporting store gift certificate.

If his family is having a hard time financially, the Wii may not be a good idea.
Buy purchasing it, you are obligating him to fork out money for games he may not be able to afford.
And if he cant, then there is a game system that will just sit there.

I am not so sure about the watch. Jewelry is a very personal thing, and he might not like what you choose, but feel embarrassed about exchanging it. A certificate to a sporting goods store might be appropriate, so he can buy what he wants and needs.

I think that it might be nice, if in addition to the gift certificate, you might want to present it with a certificate or plaque, which would add more personalization to the gift.

Do you know if he likes a particular team?

Maybe tickets to their game and a gift certificate to a restaurant or something so either him and his wife can go out on a date, or if the tickets are cheap enough, the whole family can go

I have some good team photos. I could make a plaque type thing! Get all the kids to sign the matt and frame it up nice. I'll put that in the "for sure" column.

I know his wife works days and he works nights so I'm not sure about tickets for anything that would require them to take time off or have trouble coordinating their schedules.

Thats a good point about the Wii. Those games are expensive.

A gift certificate is looking really good.

Thanks everyone!
