Just reading someone's post who I've met at a meet and I could hear them saying their comments, so it led me to wonder...

1. Do you hear the person's voice when you read their posts?

2. After having met them, do you distinctly remember who and how they "were" before you met them and discovered who they were?

3. Were your impressions of them correct?

4. Do you get their posts better now, ie. the sarcasm, the laughter, etc?

1. Yes, though as time passes this softens to a hint of a voice.
2. Nope.
3. Almost always, more or less.
4. Definitely.

Only those I've met several times at a2k meets, but there are always exceptions. I met georgeob only once, but I can still "see" and hear his laughter.

strangely enough, when I read shewolfs stuff, I don't hear her voice.

some of the freakshow stuff she writes, good lord, how could that come out of her mouth?

IRL she sounds so refined. I'm not kidding.

Shewolf has the greatest laugh, not so refined, but a huge mass of mirth bubbling up.

especially when I tell her David Sedaris stories.

Chai, I'm looking forward to meeting you at the next Austin meet - possibly in September or October. PDiddie said he'll drive up from Houston, and my old air force buddy who lives in Terrell said he'll also drive to Austin.

I met several A2Kers in Chicago in May 2006. I felt that I knew them before I actually met them. (These were all people whose posts I have read often.)

I find I mentally assign "voices" as I read posts but they don't always
match the real voices of the posters -- even when I've met them and
know their voices.

When I meet someone whom I've only known through his or her posts,
there a period of synthesis while my previous impression merges with
the person I'm talking to. After that the previous impression is pretty much
gone forever.

There's almost always something about the person that comes as a
surprize. I've only met one A2Ker who was exactly as I'd thought he'd be.

I can't say I've gotten anyone's posts better after meeting them. I'm
fairly dense.

We are all fakes and good at fooling people. People are always surprised to learn that I'm a not sexy babe.

I haven't met anybody from A2K, but I've met a few people from another message board.

1) Yes, I always seem to assign a voice to everyone's posts.

2) Like George said, I usually have to adjust my perceptions somewhat when I meet them in person. Their voice is never quite the same as the voice I "heard" when I read their posts. But once you meet them in person, the image you had of them before seems to fade into the background.

3) I've met about four or five people from the other message board. In most cases, my impressions were pretty much correct -- but there was one person who turned out to be totally different from what I imagined! (still very likable, though!)

4) I can't say that I do. I think I "got" them even before I met them. I can't say that meeting them gave me any additional insight into their posts.

Good thread, Mame! Smile

1. At times, yes. Sometimes I conjure up their face in my mind's eye.
2. Not really but these days I don't go down that path as much any more because I've been wrong so often about what people would be like. So I try to be open when I meet them and that seems to work out nicely.

Mame!

I am not a violent person, I'd never duke it out with anyone!

I'd love for CI to hold the door for me.

I'd hold the door for you too.

oh, I remember now, I've met Tai Chi. She was absolutely charming. When I read her posts now, I do think of her. Sounded kinda funny though, eh?

um, I met boomer, she's real quick witted, just like on here.

There was someone I talked to on the phone once, it was the weirdest thing, I always thought this person was a gal, but it was a guy! He didn't take offense, said a lot of people do that.

Mame, I hear you as having a heavier canadian accent than Tai Chi, from you photos you look like you have indian blood in you, and I imagine a slight french accent. True or no?

I speak with a heavy scottish accent.
