THE TABLE

Should you think that I should,
then I should think that I shall try
would you think that I can't
then I still think I will try
Someone said if you want a job done properly
do it yourself
I don't need anyone to screw things up for me
I can do that for myself, thank you very much
Then I look around me
gazing at the world
and see a magnitude of error
A suckling of childrens minds
A tutelage of teenage thoughts
An adrenalin of adult verve
But some place along the learning curve
the bugs & gremlins keep creeping in
and people's time lines gets confused
Promotion to their level of incompetence
A pigeon hole to suit their lack of skill
No job is immune from the dipsticks in our world
No high office is fireproof
from the incendiary minds of hotheads
Any job requires skill & knowledge
So as I travel thru this life
why oh why
do I get the
half baked
stone age loony
who invented a square wheel
and stood it on 4 tree stumps
and called it a table

oldandknew, John. A holistic reading of this telling poem makes me realize exactly what the paradox of living and dying ; confrontation and misery entails. I won't even try to pick out any special line, because the entire "table" is obviously set for a mixing of cultures and hence confusion; a place where vultures dine at the expense of the innocent. Yes, John, a suckling of children's minds, and therein lies the breath of this poem. Yes, we are pretty good at screwing things up for ourselves...and in a different context--thank you very much.
