Okay. Whatever. I want to run a criminal background check on someone or maybe even a few people.
There are a lot of websites I can pay to do this through and I am willing to pay. But if I'm going to pay I don't want to poke and hope that I've found a good site. Can you recommend one?
What do I need besides a name and address to effectively do this search?
Please note: I know some of you could probably do this for me. Of those who might be able to, I trust about... ummm... let's see..... 4 of you with this information. If you are one of those 4, and you know who you are, you are welcome to PM me and I will send you the info and my eternal gratitude. If you even have a doubt that you are not one of the 4 please don't bother, I don't want to hurt your feelings by telling you that you aren't one of the fab 4 who have proven themselves to be completely trustworthy. (Seriously, this is not a contest. I'm just paranoid.)
Even if you fall into the "don't bother" category you are still welcome to make a recommendation and I will be really, really grateful.
Thanks!
About a year ago, I spent a lot of time trying to find my husband.
I tried ... ooohhhh I hope I remember them all..
1 eight hundred us search ( spelled out so as not to become an advertisement)
people searcher site
white pages pay search
and.. .. ooohh.. crapola.. I dont remember
FOr the most part their cost was ,( individually ) under 60 bucks.
Only one allowed me to do a background search and I was armed with partial social security number.
none... i repeat NONE gave me a lead.
They gladly listed all the information I already had...nothing updated.
One.. i think it was the people search.. gave me access to their so called database for 20 days.
Even my own information was wrong in their site.
no recommendation here.. just ones to not waste your money on

A Date of Birth and Social Security number will narrow your search by eliminating other people with the same name. Addresses are ok but unless you know every address they've ever lived at...
There are public records one can get access to online. If the person
does have a criminal record, it will show up and to obtain the courthouse
papers, it cost around $ 5.00. I did this once with someone in
Los Angeles who wanted to buy real estate from me, and I was not sure
of his intention.
Hmm. It sounds like the internet services are not so hot.
I know the persons name, current address and phone number and could probably get their birth date without any problem. Social security number would be hard.
We know quite a bit about this person but Mr. B just wants to know a little more. I was surprised that his business doesn't subscribe to a background search service but they don't.
Public records looks like the way to go.
Thanks all!
you could always try just calling a lawyers office.
sometimes they will tell you right where to go and for how much money

Yep.
Or maybe you could PM one ....
.... if they were one of the "Fab 4" that is.
I didn't mean to upset anyone with the "4" thing. There have been 4 people in the past who have been able to get information for me before and I know they have kept it to themselves. It's a very touchy, close to home situation and privacy is very important. I've seen people repeat thing said in PMs on the public forum before when a disagreement over something entirely unrelated came up. It makes me nervous. I don't mean to question anyone's integrity or hurt anyone's feelings. I'm truly sorry if it comes across that way.

Too late. I'm very fragile.
Pah! It's such a foreign word to you, Tico,
I'm surprised you wrote it right.

You too, CJ? I'm getting bruised here.
I'm feeling very vulnerable today. I think I better go hang out in the R&M forum.

And here I was getting ready to stamp your photo on the nose of my airplane as being yet another strong man I've injured. I suppose I'll have to use the china cup stamp now, or maybe a flower.
<sigh>
Nobody takes those seriously.

Did you check out the Washington State Patrol site?
I did check it. Thanks.
As far as I know though this person has never lived in Washington.
Sorry, I thought that's where ya'll are living.
Nemmind, then.
Just google "criminal background check [your state]."
Criminal convictions are public records.
