Privacy settings have blocked elements on this page. This keeps on coming up and Facebook and MSN and certain websites have been affected, meaning I can access everything on them
Somehow in the last few weeks the privacy settings on my computer have been changed. I was doing some fiddling around around a few weeks and probably have messed something up. As you can tell I am not a computer expert. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking at to try and stop this alert from coming up, I see that under my Zone Alarm Pro Privacy settings, there is three topics covered, one is cookies, the other is Mobile Code Control and the other is ad blocking. Do you think that one of these is set wrong???? Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Marie
What seems "messed up"? Do images look weird? If you describe what's happening it is easier to help you.
But here's my guess:
You say you are using Zone Alarm Pro (my condolences for paying for software I couldn't be paid to use but that's for another day) and the "Pro" does dumb stuff like turn off the referrer header. Doing so can break all sorts of web applications that rely on the non-standard (but usually present) header for security.
For example, to prevent bandwidth leeching websites often require that image hits come with a referrer header of their own website and not that of others.
Other websites insist on a referrer header for a login form or other submission so that it blocks users being tricked into posts from other websites.
In any case, if this is your problem you can fix it by making it stop blocking "Private Headers".
- In Zone Alarm Pro, select Privacy.
- Under Cookie Control, click Custom
- In Custom Privacy Settings, uncheck the box that say Remove private header information.
- Click OK.
That's my best guess. But if that's not the problem give us more information about how it's interfering with your web use.
