I have an Acer laptop with a built in webcam at the top. I once disabled the camera by going through the "Safely Remove Hardware" method. The camera was successfully disabled without any problems. Later, I re-enabled the camera.
The problem, now, is that the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appears in the tray at the bottom right corner of the computer. When I click on it, it tells me that my webcam is ready to be removed; all I have to do is click "Stop" then unplug it.
I have tried going through the process again, but the icon still appears in the tray. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? The webcam works just fine, but I don't want the icon to take up space in the tray.
Unwanted tray icon
You could just choose to hide the icon. First check your settings for the "Safely Remove Hardware" program, and see if there is an option to display an icon in the system tray. If so, remove it that way. If not, you can hide it by right clicking your start button, choose properties, taskbar. In the notification area, check hide inactive icons, then click customize. Choose the icon you wish to hide by clicking it, and choosing from the drop down menu, how you wish to hide it, and click OK then apply.
I hope one of these works for you.
