Okay, lets see if that is the answer:

WHEAT
I am a word of 5 letters, people eat me (okay)

if you remove my 1st letter i will be a form of energy
HEAT (okay)

if you remove my 1st and 2nd letters i will be needed for living
EAT (okay)

if you remove my 1st and 3rd letters i will be near you
Remove them from WHEAT = HAT
Remove them from EAT = A

if you remove my 1st and 4th letters i will be a drink for you, what am i??
Remove them from WHEAT = HET
Can't remove them from A or HAT

So, I don't get it. Why don't you enlighten me?

It all makes sense, apart from the drink.

Maybe it's supposed to be remove 2nd and 4th for the drink.
