Gaylord Ravena was certainly a more carefully drawn character and seemed to come to life -- Rhett Butler could have easily been a walking, talking Civil War statue. Gable was perfect as they had to have a strong romantic lead in the film and he was the perfect foil for Vivian Leigh ('cause they didn't really get along in real life). But guess who I would have picked to play Rhett.
Do I really have to guess? Let's see. 1939. Who was around? Tyrone Power? James Cagney? Cary Grant? Randolph Scott? Paul Muni? Okay, I give up. Who?
Can't argue about the Ferber/Mitchell issue. To paraphrase Capote (I think it was Capote), one was a writer; the other, a typist.
Scarlett, Why, RuPaul, of course.
Hiya Bob, Now why didn't I think of that? LOL
I think Scarlet was 16 when the war started, and 24 or 25 when the book ended (?) So maybe we should be thinking younger - Christina Ricci? Thora Birch? And I can see Reese Witherspoon as Melanie - think of her performance in Cruel Intentions.
By the way, Vivien Leigh was 25 when GWTW was filmed.
Christina Ricci... a chain smoking foul mouthed Scarlett....creepily enticing....
