I'm planning on seeing American Splendor tomorrow. Has anyone seen it? From what I've read it sounds like a fantastic movie.
Well, I'm off to the movie. Before I go I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for participating in this thread. Your answers were witty, articulate, insightful, profound, and, certainly, abundant. The overwhelming response to my question was truly staggering. Again, thank you everyone --you were there when I needed you most.
Gus
So - what was it like, Gus? I've never heard of it...
Thanks for asking, Dlowan. And thank you for participating as well, Margo.
The movie was quite entertaining. The true story of Harvey Pekar, a file clerk/cartoonist from Cleveland. A sort of slice-of-America movie. It would take me quite a while to explain the movie. Here's some background information on how the movie came to be...

Gus! Gus! I saw it this very night! Loved it - so - let's discuss!
I can't discuss it right now, Dlowan. I have some errands to run. I'm glad you liked it, however. Where'd you manage to see it at? It was only playing at one theater in the city where I saw it.
I've been meaning to ask LightWizard about this film. He's the resident film expert isn't he?
And, as long as we're talking about movies, and this ties into your little corner of the planet, have you seen "Rabbit Proof Fence"? I've been hearing mixed things about that movie but I plan on watching it soon.
Well, off to the races.
Rabbit Proof Fence is great - it is a very inward film, though - although there is real suspense and such - very important historically re the thirties and eugenics - as well as the terrible human cost thereof - but it does not, if you watch carefully, shirk the complexities.
I saw "American Splendor" at one of our "mainstream arthouse" cinemas - if that makes sense.
If only they could spell the title correctly.
Rumor has it there are a few backward countries that actually spell it splendour. I find that too comical to believe, so I have dismissed said rumor. (or should I say rumour?)
Do you mean "THe Hours", Borrichone? If so, there is a whole thread on it...just a sec...
Yes, you should say rumour.
