does disabling parental control 7444 play import?

i was on another forum seeing as a password disabling parental controls states you can set region if i choose japan could i play imports and would i lose memory card? i wanted to be sure my ps2 doesn't get stuck that way. i've been seeing all these talks of swap magic/flop disks and thats a drag since my dad wont buy anything.he'd rather pay $30 more here to avoid import.I WANT TO PLAY NARUTIMATE!i dont want to screw up my ps2 though...i mite b able to reason about game though if i buy it and he imports[see, im not using a computer, im using wii internet channel]hes got a computer and lives away from me
