I received this email - i ran the check and there is a 15k file with a teddy - should i delete it? is it a virus or would i be deleting something important??? i don't know the person who sent the email and so don't quite trust it.
This is what it says:
I just found out I received a virus that automatically is passed through
email address books. Since you are in my address book, you will probably
find it in your computer, too. The virus (called jdbg.exe) is not
detected by Norton or McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly
for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by
'messenger and by address book, whether or not you sent e-mail to your
contacts.
Here is how to check for the virus and how to get rid of it.
PLEASE DO THIS ASAP:
I. Go to Start, then click your 'Find' or 'Search' option
2. In the folder option, type the name... jdbgm
3. Be sure to search your C Drive and all the sub
folders and any other drives you may have
4. Click 'Find Now'
5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe Do not open
it!
6. Go to Edit (on the menu bar) and choose "Select All' to highlight the
file without opening it.
7. Now go to File (on the menu bar) and select delete. It will then go
to the recycle bin. If you find the virus, you must contact all the
people in your Address Book so that they may eradicate the virus from
their own address books.
To do this:
1. Open a new e-mail message
2. Click the icon Address Book or Contacts next to 'TO'
3. Highlight every name and add to "BCC"
4. Copy and Paste this message and click 'Send'
scan your comp with AVG and delete that email.
It's a hoax. But thankfully deleting it is no big deal unless you write Java code. But don't go and delete it. It's a hoax.
Almost any wmail that says Norton and McAffee won't find it is a hoax.
norton and mc affee don't find alot of things.
Norton vs AVG
Norton finds a heck of alot more than AVG does..

Help! is this a virus
Ah ha! the infamous TeddyBear Virus raises its ugly head once more!
This one's been around for a long time - I should know: it caught me a while back; I dutifully did the deletion - and then had to put everything back together again.
Help! Is this a virus
But my embarrassment at being taken in by Teddy was nothing to that of the friend who sent me the warning...
murray AVG and norton should both be used 1 scanner is not enough I know for a fact that they each have virus deffinitions that the other doesn't.
Using two active scanners will cause more problems than it solves as each scanner will see the virii definitions of the other and come up with hits.. Any legit av program will advise you of this..
Murray
you don't run them at the same time you run them in seperate scans. it is standard practice in the tech field. the av scanner has a set derectory for it's deffs it will not find the others.
As per Solvenet VIRUS HELP TIPS - PAGE 2
Since no antivirus scanner can detect everything, some people think
the best way to enhance their safety is to use two or more scanners.
However, the incremental increase in safety you gain by doing that is
much smaller than what you can achieve by making a backup of essential
files on the hard disk, so that's what I advise people to do first.
After making a backup, if you choose to run two antivirus programs,
remember that running them simultaneously in memory could cause
conflicts and will impede system performance. Running their manual
scanning components sequentially should not present any problem,
however.
Ergo, having two av programs on real-time scan can and most probably will cause problems unless you disable the real-time scan of one or the other and how many "users" would know to do that?? Then again, if you disable one real-time scan, if a virii did get past your other scanner, it would already be to late now wouldn't it !!

Vivien, I also had a virus panic a short while back, and asked the question. You can find some good advise at this link. A good idea is to have Symantics as a Favorite on your computer, and check there for current and past virus. They can also suggest patches to remove some virus.

Good luck!
I'm talking about having 1 running at all times and then checkking 1ce a week or so doing a scan with each to see if the 1 your running missed anything.
