When I was looking for antique maps of Michigan, I simply googled that. Several sites popped up.

You need to be specific about what you want to look at. There are sites that have maps you can zoom in on and look at how map makers saw the world. I also find it fascinating!

It seems the problem is you really don't know exactly what you want.

Try to make a plan of what you want to know first.

Say, you want to know about the Persians.

Just google "Persian empire maps".

You'll get nice stuff, like this:

Then read the sites containig the maps...

thats the problem! i want to look at ALL of the maps, not just one!

i dont view history in eras, i just want to see how it unfolded.

i want to see the whole picture of the empires and states for everywhere, i cant find a site that has any good ancient maps , i have to search one by one and its tiring having like 20-30 tabs open in wiki trying to peice together ancient history.

not that i dont like wiki!

I saw something of the sort once, but can't remember what i was looking for at the time. It was an animated map that showed the various cultures expanding and contracting over time, as each group rose to prominence and conquered some of the others.

If i can find it again, i'll post a link here. I believe the map was for the middle east only. It's been years ago, so i can't even remember the (casual) context in which i made the search.

If i find it, i'll let you know.

from wiki :

Quote:
Lesbos (Greek: Λέσβος, Lesvos) is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean Sea. Lesbos is part of the Lesbos Prefecture, the third largest Greek island and the eighth largest in the Mediterranean Sea. It has an area of 1,630 kmĀ² (630 square miles) with 320 kilometres (almost 200 miles) of coastline. Its population is approximately 90,000, a third of which lives in its capital, Mytilene, in the southeastern part of the island. The remaining population is distributed in small towns and villages. The largest towns are Kalloni, Yera Villages, Plomari, Agiassos, Eresos and Molyvos, the ancient Mythymna. Mytilene was founded in the 11th century BC by the family Penthilidae, who arrived from Thessaly, and ruled until the popular revolt (590-580 BC) led by Pittacus of Mytilene.

The word lesbian is derived from the poems of Sappho, which contain powerful emotional content directed toward other women and have frequently been interpreted as expressing homosexual love. Because of this association, Lesbos and especially the town of Eresos, birthplace of Sappho, are visited frequently by lesbian tourists.[2]
