Inyokern, California - Kern county, in the Southern California desert adjacent to the Navy Air launched Weapons Test center - strange place, great flying - I lived there for a year or so.

Navy (though we used to occasionally jump the Air Force pukes operating out of Edwards AFB about 90 miles south.)

Jenner California - where the Russian River meets the Pacific.

Monte Rio California -- small town on the north shore of the Russian River (15 miles upriver from Jenner) , across from the Bohemian Grove. Surrounded by beautiful Redwood forests.

Well I have been "hanging out there" for a long time (> 20 yrs.) - nice place, interesting people ! (waddya mean "tststst")

I lived in Newport for a year. Nice place - except in the winter when it snows sideways in the bitter winds that blow across the bay.. The locals are VERY insular in their mindsets. Very interesting to observe that the remaining mansions on Belleview Ave that aren't owned by various conservancy groups are now owned by lawyers & businessmen who are the great grandchildren of the Irish maids who worked there when they were new - the story of America.

Occidental, California - about 15 miles Southeast of Monte Rio - a vacation town in the Redwood forest.

I don't think you'd like that town, Francis.
George, yes Newport is a nice town, but I was told it can get quite
uptight there too among the socialites. I only visited there on occasion.

Queens, NY - not a town, just a borough, but they have a big town attitude
there.

Queens is certainly bigger than Tabby's Delight !! Laughing

I didn't hang around with the Newport socialites, (though the route of my morning bike ride took me past the Klaus & Sonny von Bulow place), but I believe you are correct in your judgement. Interestingly the town is really run (politically at least) by the winter/all year population, who are, as I indicated, the descendents of the mostly Irish servants who once attended the Super-Rich" there - an amusing turn of the screw.

Most of them exhibit an extreme form of the New England insularity that I find so annoying. I recall once going into a shop in Newport and asking where I might be able to find some long since forgotten article they didn't have in stock. The clerk's response was a typical cold New England stare that, in effect, said "Why did YOU ask ME THAT ?". So I then asked, with innocent persistence, if I could perhaps find in in Providence, "But that would be off the island!" was the amazed response. Go figure!

Still in the Spring, Summer, & Fall it is a beautiful place. -- just as is La -- no, "Upper San Diego", where you live Cool

------ -------- ------------

Reisterstown Maryland -- not too far Southeast of Tabby's Delight.

I know what you mean, george. As much as I like to live here in this
beautiful town, the phoney people annoy me to no end.
I've been in LJ close to 20 years, and slowly I get fed up.
My next destination is more inland, I think...

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - a friend of mine hails from there.

Upper Kalskag, Alaska
(one of the places on my list to visit. Not necessarily Upper Kalskag, but
Alaska for sure)

There are phoneys everywhere, and I have not had the impression that either San Diego or LaJolla was a particular concentration of them.

I like to complain about the monotonous and perpetually good weather there, but that's mostly envy.

Umatilla Oregon.
