Is Eelmonsary something in science fiction. It isn't in the SO but I have a feeling I have heard it before. What does it mean Clary?

On further research I see that my spelling was wrong, it's eleemosynary and means 'related to alms-giving; living on charity' - quite a useful word, if difficult to get one's tongue around.
